Slopeside Cafe
A retro cafe focused on good coffee and even better skiing. Located at the base of Alta Ski Resort.
Background: From the legends that skied powder long before the first powder skis were dreamed up, to early avalanche mitigation and interlodes*, Alta holds a special place in ski history. At the base of it, sits The Slopeside Cafe. Across its walls, the history of the area is explained, and today’s local rippers take refuge from a long day on the slopes with a coffee or beer in hand (sometimes both at the same time).
*Interlodge- when snow levels are so great and avalanche danger is so extreme that patrons and employees of Alta are confined to resort buildings while avalanche work is being done.
Design: This re-deisgn through the decades was brought to life using both film photography and current day mirrorless cameras. Alongside retro cartoon ski characters and rounded block type that mix ski culture and coffee, in a goofy style, similarly seen throughout the brand voice. The 50s black and white 35mm film, next to the high color contrast photos reminiscent of the 80s, take the viewer on a historic journey.
